Brew Durham 3 – October 2012

brew durham 2012

After two very successful events over the past year, Brew Durham is back and ready to bring some great homebrews out to the Scrap Exchange in Durham this fall.  Brew Durham is a beer festival made up entirely of home brewers in the area, meant to showcase the creative spirit of the community and display some of the amazing recipes that folks are creating inside their homes.

If you haven’t yet attended Brew Durham, this is your chance to do so.  It is a great event that is not only full of great beer, but also live music and food trucks.  And it’s all for a good cause – raising money for the Scrap Exchange!

There are still a few brewer spots left as of this posting (10/3/12), so head over to the Brew Durham website to sign up if you would like to attend as a brewer.  Brewer’s get great perks including a couple free tickets, food, and an after party!  Bull City Homebrew is also offering a discount on ingredients used for beer you take to the festival.

Don’t think you can brew beer in time to serve, but still want to see what it’s all about?  Then go ahead and purchase your tickets online for either the afternoon or evening session to secure a spot.

The past two events have had a great turnout – both brewers and attendees, and it looks like this time around will not be any exception.

I will be there partnering up at a booth with Ben Woodward (of Haw River Farmhouse Ales).  We have collaborated on a hoppy and smokey sensation – a smoked hop IPA.  Instead of using smoked malt, we smoked some Cascade hops, blended them with non-smoked hops and added them into the boil of my standard IPA recipe.  The resulting beer should have a nice level of smokiness while still providing the hoppy burst you expect from a west coast IPA.

In addition to that, both Ben and I will have another 5 gallons each of some other special brews.  So if for no other reason than to try our crazy concoxions, we hope you will make it out to Brew Durham this fall!

When: October 20, 1013
Where: Scrap Exchange, 923 Franklin Street, Durham
Cost: $30 per session.  Includes unlimited tastings during that session.  Designated driver tickets also available.

See you there!
